Norma J 2002

"International Flight" is an explosion of washing machines falling through a cloudless blue sky. The washing machine is a symbol of our exasperated relationship with goods and everyday technological items, whose increasingly sophisticated activities finally reach a point of no return and they self-destruct.

Norma J. (Maria Joao Calisto) creates dream-like surrealism with a shower of washing machines suspended in a clear blue sky. Norma Jeane, the given name of Marilyn Monroe, is used as a pseudonym by the young artist who won the Italian Studio Program 2001 award sponsored by illycaffè. Norma J. is an award-winning student from the P.S.1
